Cycle 8 - The Girls Who Go to Prom - Review

When the girls first started learning the “complicated” three-girl runway walk, they seemed to be getting the hang of it - for the most part, the girls seemed to know what they were supposed to do and were doing it.  However, it was a completely different story once they were on the actual fashion show runway in front of an audience.  So many of the ladies nearly collided as a result of inattention to their position relative to the other two near them.  Jaslene kept walking instead of letting one of her runway buddies cross, while Natasha fell behind and did not look to see where she was or where the others were.

Overall, it was disappointing to watch how awful most of the girls were when they were put to the “test.”  It truly was difficult to continue to watch them, especially without cringing, because it was so poorly done.  And who found it irritating the way Jaslene kept spouting off about how great her walk is/was, when it wasn’t?

Brittany ended up winning the challenge this time around, with her supposedly fierce walk.  I didn’t particularly buy it - thought she seemed rather amateur, definitely not the master of the catwalk quite yet.

I always look forward to the photoshoots, but I could do without the whining, especially from Renee.  Someone will always be stuck with a role in a photoshoot that isn’t “them” or isn’t their comfort zone, and guess what?  That’s part of modeling.  I don’t understand why these girls can’t seem to comprehend that little fact.  Not to mention, half of modeling involves some sort of acting.  Renee should have stepped up and tried to actually be the class clown rather than bitch about how much she thought it was unfair that she was put into a role that wasn’t “her.”

Samantha did the same thing, and while I understand being uncomfortable being more raunchy than classically sexy, just because you pose one way for a photoshoot (which isn’t porn, by the way!) doesn’t turn you into that role in real life.  It is just acting; it is posing and putting on a show for the camera to take a good picture and make a good photo spread.

While I don’t particularly like Sarah’s personality, because she is far too know-it-all-esque for my taste, Miss Photographer did take an awfully pretty picture.  I thought it was rather flirtatious, even if the judges found it too sexy.  She does take good photos, however, so I wasn’t surprised she was kept in the running.

Although Jael is definitely the oddball of the group, she photographs amazingly, and I love her willingness to go there and make the role work for her, at least in this photoshoot I felt she really put it all into it.  Like Jael, Jaslene takes incredible pictures, even if her personality is in the ditches.  I’d like to believe that a good portion of her photogenic qualities is due to the fact that her face has very extreme angles, making it far easier for her to pose and look good than girls with less apparent angles/lines.  Also, why aren’t the judges telling her to gain weight?

Natasha also photographs well, even if she is a bit light in the intelligence department.  I’m not sure if it’s merely a problem of smartness or if it truly is a problem with translation.  I find it hard to believe that nobody was able to tell her what a teacher’s pet was.  I keep imagining Natasha looking drop dead gorgeous as a dark brunette a la Angelina Jolie.  I really hope they give her hair a full conditioning treatment and some dark dye during the makeovers!

The rest of the girls did not do enough to impress or irritate me, which isn’t a good thing, but it sure beats annoying me like Renee seems to do quite admirably.

I would say the best photoshoots were Jaslene, Jael, and Sarah; the worst photoshoots were:  Samantha, Whitney, and Renee.
