Cycle 8 - America’s Next Top Model Eliminee… Samantha

Article/interview by Belinda Trotter-James:

“Samantha is the second contestant to loose a chance at becoming America’s Next Top Model.  I must tell you that this year’s editing team is really on point.  They took an outgoing personality and portrayed her as a country pumpkin that never experienced life outside of Pinson, Alabama.  Our conversation was lively and she explained everything with a hint of excitement.  She was definitely nothing like the character portrayed on the show.  Read on to see what we talked about…

Belinda:  What were you doing before America’s Next Top Model?
Samantha:  I was working in a retail store.  I always wanted to model.  My boyfriend and I were watching the show and he suggested I try out for it.  He was very excited when I was chosen to be the top 13 in the house.  He was definitely my support throughout the process.  He gave me pep talks and just kept me alive in the house.

Note to readers:  See … How shy can she be… She has a boyfriend.

Belinda:  What did you think about the way they portrayed you on the show?
Samantha:  That’s not me at all.  They made it seem as if I did not interact with the girls.  The first day was a little intimidating but after that I had a great time.

Belinda:  Why were you crying over the phone to your father?
Samantha:  It was so overwhelming.  I was home sick and I never realized how home sick I would be.  I have always wanted to live in the big city and now that I had the chance, it was very stressful and overwhelming.  My dad just happened to pick up the phone and when I heard his voice, I just started crying.

Note to readers:  Wow!  See what happens when you don’t travel any further than your back yard.  In her final words on the show she said it was not God’s plan for  her to stay on the show.  I said she better not blame God.  She asked to experience living in the big city and she was overwhelmed to the point that it got her booted off the show.  Watch what you ask for… you may just get it.

Belinda:  Why was it so hard for you to portray a girl with a reputation for your photo shoot?  You do watch television and you have seen bad girls…. Haven’t you?
Samantha: We have eight televisions in my house.  They made me look like a poor sheltered girl.  I was completely open to the shoot.  I did a lot of good sexy shots however; they only showed the bad shot.  I know I held back a little.  It was uncomfortable being on the show because every move you make is caught on camera.  I was kidding around with the girls at the shoot and having a great time but they made me look like I could not get the shot  and would not interact with the other contestants.

Note to readers: I am sorry but I had to ask her if she had TV’s in her house because she seemed like she never saw a girl with a reputation in action.  We never saw her having fun and hitting her shots.  All we saw was a sheltered 19 year old girl who seemed like a 9 year old who never been kissed.

Belinda: What will you do now?
Samantha:  I am going to get my portfolio together and continue to pursue modeling.

Belinda:  Which of the girls will you stay in touch with in the future?
Samantha:  I was close to Brittney, who lives near me and Renee.

Samantha was nothing like her character on top model.  I really enjoyed her interview and wish her all the best.  Of course I asked her if Adrienne’s photo, the very first winner of top model, was in the house and she said no.  “Shannon’s photo is in the house,” said Samantha.  SHANNON!?  Why is her photo in the house?  Is she a runner up?  I will get back to you on that.  I know I asked Kathleen that same question but since I could not tell if she had a clue as to what I was talking about, I needed a second informant.  If Adrienne’s photo is not in the house, that just shows how petty this industry can be to those who are fresh meat.  Adrienne said that they did not call her for months after winning the title.  The show was trying to survive and probably could not worry about Adrienne.  Each year as the show got more sponsors, they were able to better take care of the winners.  However, that is no way to treat the first winner. It SUCKS!”
